I just did a search on the sbstransit website and it looks like the fastest and most hassle free way for me to get to TP would be to take a train from Serangoon stn to Boonkeng Stn and then from the bus stop at boonkeng, I'll have to take bus23 which goes all the way(thank goodness) to TP. It should take me around 40 minutes or so.
